2.Childcare worker responsibilities

Proving Basic Care Duties

  • Childcare providers are responsible for caring for a small number of children while parents are working or running errands. The providers must do the work that parents do and perform basic care duties. Child care providers feed children nutritious meals, and provide snacks throughout the children's time. Dinner may be served to children whose parents are picking them up late. Childcare providers perform basic care duties depending on the age of the children. Providers taking care of young children will routinely change diapers and train them to use the toilet. Also, they make sure children take naps.

Educating and Entertaining Duties

  • While children are in their care, childcare providers are responsible for making sure children are in a safe and learning environment. Childcare providers may teach children how to read through educational games, problem-solving and storytelling. Also, they may teach young children how to count by using building blocks. Children learn social skills, too. Providers encourage children to interact and play with each other. In addition, childcare providers may schedule entertainment time, such as painting, drawing or listening to music.

Keeping Contact with Parents

  • Another duty for childcare providers is maintaining contact with parents or guardians through scheduled or informal meetings. They keep parents abreast of children's needs, progress, and what they did during the day. Besides the routine duty of informing parents about their children's daily activities, childcare providers discuss children's health, and inform the parents if the child isn't well.
